Yes, I know... I didn't speak about earthquakes in the first blog. What became apparent to those of us on the pilgrimage was that almost all 21 of the missions were very near the San Andreas fault line that extends parallel to the Camino Real--the "King's Highway"--along the spine of California.
As we traveled to each mission we prayed the rosary many times. We prayed and sang songs to Mary in our vehicles and proceeded from mission to mission, completing the visitation of all 21 missions in 8 days.
I lived in California in the Los Angeles area from 1976 until 1987. I experienced 3 earthquakes during that time--two very intense ones that shook for at least 30-80 seconds and one minor one. They were a little scary but fortunately none of them caused major damage where I lived. Shortly after I moved from California a major earthquake occurred centered in the very valley where I lived.
Why do earthquakes occur? Although there are the obvious physical reasons---the shifting of the tectonic plates beneath the earth and the earth's release of pent-up pressures, often many miles deep---there are also spiritual and energetic reasons.
I believe that mankind's violence, war, unconsiousness and negative thoughts, feelings and actions pool and build up a certain energetic pressure within the earth's auric field. This has to be released in some way so that balance and harmony can be sustained. Earthquakes are one way of the rebalancing to occur.
However, we can change our consciousness. We can become more loving, kind and reverent toward the earth and all life. We can pray and visualize light going forth to mitigate earthquakes and darkness. This is what we did on the 2005 pilgrimage. As a result of our work, I believe that many souls were "saved" from a greater calamity and given opportunity to awaken to a higher spiritual spiral of being. For this, I am grateful.
So in a very direct but outwardly unobservable way we helped to mitigate greater calamity through earthquakes through this sacred work. The rosary is a very powerful spiritual tool, partly because Catholics have been giving it for hundreds of years and there is a momentum built up through these prayers.
In 1974 I learned a "new age" version of the Hail Mary that to me uses more conscious language. Instead of saying "pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death" in our version of the Hail Mary we say "pray for us children of love now and as shine with virtue, health and life." Isn't it better to focus on ourselves as beings sons and daughters of God and children of love rather than continuing to see ourselves as sinners? Isn't it better to ask Mary to be with us all the time rather than only at the hour of our death?
So although some Catholics may wonder why these words are changed, I explain that it is "progressive revelation" that brought forth this new version. God is revealing new and wonderful teachings, concepts and truth through some who are able to see beyond the veil and experience the living reality of the saints and mystics who have gone before us and ascended into the realms of light in heaven.
In my next blog I'll speak of some specific miracles that occurred on the 2005 Missions Tour.
